Chinatown Vancouver

Vancouver's Chinatown is one of North America's largest Chinatowns

Located near Gastown and the Downtown Vancouver Business District, Chinatown's main historic area extends for 4 blocks along Pender and Keefer Streets from 3 blocks west to 1 block east of Main Street. This colorful and vibrant neighborhood is the home of many authentic restaurants, Chinese markets and businesses and the outstanding Dr. Sun-Yat Sen Classical Chinese Gardens.

The Dr. Sun-Yat Sen Gardens were recently featured in National Geographic as one of the top ten city gardens in the world, so they are well worth a visit.

At the western edge of Chinatown near Stadium SkyTrain Station is the International Market Shopping Mall which features a variety of Asian themed shops and restaurants often referred to as Tinseltown after the Cinemark Tinseltown Theatres located there.

Tourists may wish to avoid Hastings Street, (one block north of Pender) especially between Abbott Street and Gore Avenue. While this section is safe enough and has a strong police presence, there are a lot of mentally ill, addicted and homeless people on the street making the area less desirable for tourists.
